On September 29th, there was a disaster prevention lecture held at the Minamisoma-Shi Firefighting/Disaster Prevention Center. First, we toured the first floor and got to look at images from the disaster of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. After, the lecturer, Mr. Isao Watanabe of Fukushima Prefecture’s Director of Disaster Prevention, talked about how to protect ourselves from an earthquake and tsunami. The attendees were also given hazard maps to check and see the areas in which a tsunami might hit and where the evacuation centers are. It was a really informative discussion and a lot of questions were asked, such as what to prepare in an emergency kit.
