Japanese Culture: Setsubun holiday and bean throwing

On this day, people throw roasted soybeans while shouting, "Oni wa soto" ("Out with the demons") and "Fuku wa uchi" ("In with good fortune"). This bean throwing custom is to ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune into the house.
When the Setsubun holiday get closer, you’ll find a lot supermarkets selling beans and sometimes with demon masks as a free gift.
